When you want to explore the 18th century it helps to have a 21st century tool. The wmburgappColonial Williamsburg Foundation has introduced its newly updated Colonial Williamsburg Explorer for smart phones.

It’s important to know where you are, where you can go and what you can see when you’re in this recreated historic city. The paper guide that has kept me abreast of where things are, what’s opening and what’s happening had a tendency to get lost. I threw it away with the paper bag left over from my Sally Lunn bread. I left it on the counter of the print shop or left it back in the hotel room.

I haven’t had a chance to try out the new phone app — but the announcement about it has me thinking….Maybe it’s time to go back to Williamsburg. It’s been three years since I was there. It’s always fun. And the old town always looks particularly fine in the fall and winter.

Tempting, yes?
