You never know what you’ll see at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix. You expect cactus, boojum trees and lizards. But an exuberantly-colored bougainvillea carefully kept as a bonsai tree? As I say over and over again, when I visit here, Wow.

Pushing the skill barrier to find out what's possible
I visited the Phoenix Botanical Garden when they were showing an exhibit of glass artworks among the cactus. It was a rainy evening, and the illuminated glass work looked like exotic growths echoing the odd shapes of the cactus and succulents – magical!
I’ve visited here a number of times and always have seen show stopping art. Installation of a new glass exhibit by Bruce Monro was going on during my visit and is due to open Nov. 22. Here’s a link to the exhibition: https://www.dbg.org/events/bruce-munro-sonoran-light
