Longed Gardens’ water lily ponds were filled with these floating jewels in early August. We cam especially to see them.
Longwood’s conservatory offers a cool break from the summer heat — and its gardens, too, are extraordinary.
Longwood gardens had long been a favorite place of mine. However, for some reason, I never have gone to visit in the summer. This year I made it my mission to visit while the water lilies were in bloom, something I only recently discovered they had. I was not disappointed.
I didn’t stop there, of course. The adjacent conservatory is a must in every season and the gardens were filled with late summer color.

Some parts of Longwood Gardens are exactly what you would expect.
There are may different kinds of water lilies
Lots of dragon flies hanging out
Not all the colors come from flowers
Some flowering plants are spikier than others.
Some of the lily pads are HUGE
The moss covered ball is interesting during the day, but at night, is part of the “Nightscape” light show.
