City officials unveiled a new sign outside of Edgar Allan Poe’s Baltimore home July 11.

Edgar Allan Poe knew the Baltimore street where his aunt, grandmother and cousin lived as Amity Street. It has a new name, dedicated July 11, in ceremonies with local officials Delegate Keith Haynes (on the chair), City Councilman “Pete” Welch at right, and Wali Mutazammil, president of the Poppleton Community Neighborhood Association, behind them. A technical glitch led the officials to improvise at the unveiling. Hence the chair. A good crowd of Poe fans was on hand to celebrate. The sign is located right in front of the Poe House and Museum.
