TIPSY TOURIST: Abbey Burger Bistro, O.C.

AbbeyBarAn occasional series of bars, taverns, saloons, watering holes of note — not that we’re advocating tipsiness, of course.

TipsyTourist13You had me at Burley Oak.

Readers of this blog may have noticed I like a local brew produced in Berlin, a little town outside of Ocean City. When I arrived at Abbey Burger, the Ocean City branch so new it still smells new, the first thing I saw was the bar’s exceptional array of beer taps. Once they offered  Burley Oak’s Rude Boy, I stopped listening.

We came for the burgers — I had heard so much about them my expectations were sky-high. But then I saw the beer list, an encyclopedia of bottles, cans and draughts — with more than a dozen on tap, including the Burley Oak Rude Boy and Just the Tip. Like AbbeyMenuDogfish Head or Evolution Primal Prime Ale or other local beers? Or do you prefer beers imported from Colorado, New York, Seattle or Germany? They’ll have something you like. Pair it with one of the Abbey’s highly-acclaimed burgers (yes, they are awesome), maybe the alligator bites (interesting…) and sit back and enjoy this casual spot on Ocean City’s bay side (around 126th street). They’ve got happy hour specials from 4-7 p.m. just in case you decide to leave the beach early.

One more thing — leave room for the spiked shakes. We had the Berger Cookie Shake, spiked with tiny shards of our favorite Baltimore cookies, vanilla vodka and Godiva liqueur. I know I should have taken a picture of it. But, um, it disappeared much too quickly.
